ABOUT THE ARTIST
A Glimpse behind the paintbrush...
I’m Kayci, the artist behind Kayci Kayla Fine Art, creating from my home studio on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
My studio is a place where big ideas, tiny paintings, paint-covered hands, too much coffee, far too many animals, and the occasional ridiculous bird happily coexist.
And honestly, that probably tells you quite a lot about my art.
I’ve been creating for more than 15 years, beginning with graphite before finding my way through mixed media and oil painting. After stepping away from art for a time to care for my young family, I returned to painting in 2023, and somewhere along the way, I realised I wasn't interested in fitting neatly into one particular box anymore.
Some days I want to paint something expansive and atmospheric. Something layered and textured that makes you stop and feel like you've stepped into another world.
Other days, I want to paint a kookaburra wearing an Akubra.
And sometimes I want to do both.
My work moves between the deeply felt and the delightfully ridiculous, from expressive Australian birds and richly layered botanical pieces to tiny characters with very big personalities and ideas that probably should have stayed in my head. Some paintings carry stories of belonging, becoming and connection; others are simply here to make you smile.
What connects them all is joy.
Not the polished, perfect kind. The real kind. The kind found in beauty, humour, nature, connection, personality and the little things that make you unexpectedly happy.
I love creating art with a sense of character, work that feels like it has a personality of its own and brings something into a room beyond simply filling a wall.
Because I believe your home should feel like you.
It can be peaceful. Colourful. Thoughtful. A little bit weird. A little bit cheeky. It can hold the pieces that mean something deeply to you alongside the ones that simply make you grin.
After finding my way back to painting, I began sharing my work professionally in 2025. Since then, my paintings have found homes with collectors across Australia and internationally, something I never take for granted.
I'm still finding my way, still experimenting, still following the ideas that make me excited to pick up a brush.
I'm not here to tell you what art should mean.
I'm here to make the things I can't stop thinking about, and hopefully create something that makes you feel a little more connected, a little more at home, or simply a little more joyful.
Painting joy in all its forms.
That's really what it's all about.
